Training and development (public health manager)
Public health managers need a high level of knowledge and skills. They must be able to demonstrate skills in public health across all of the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework.
Public health managers need a qualification (a Master’s degree in either Public Health or a related subject, or an equivalent qualification) or be able to demonstrable equivalent experience. They also need to keep evidence to show their commitment to continuing professional and personal development.
Although it is not an essential requirement for public health managers, they can register with a professional body, for example:
- the United Kingdom Public Health Register (UKPHR)
- the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) if registered as a nurse
- the Health Care Professions’ Council (HCPC) if registered as a healthcare scientist or allied health professional
- the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) if registered as an environmental health officer.
